What is Floodlight?

Floodlight is a geospatial data intelligence company providing an extensive catalog of Environmental, Social, and Governance Datasets by leveraging ground sensors, aerial satellites, and artificial intelligence.

What makes Floodlight different from other ESG data providers?

The majority of ESG providers on the market right now are providing company reported data. This means that they are taking data from corporate sustainability reports, annual and quarterly reports, and other non verifiable sources. Floodlight uses scientifically provable instruments to collect data which allows for verification and accuracy.

Why is Floodlight’s data more reliable than other providers?

When a data provider relies on company provided reporting, they are putting their trust in the reporting company to tell the entire truth. We know this is not the case though. Between greenwashing and different reporting frameworks, a company’s ESG disclosure can be inaccurate. Since Floodlight uses scientific sources instead of company reported data, our data can be used with a higher degree of confidence.

What is the current method for calculating scope emissions from a facility?

There are currently two ways that scope emissions are calculated at a facility level. The first is for a surveyor to fly out to each location, recording relevant site information to calculate scope 1 and 2 emissions. The second method is when a company fills out an extensive questionnaire on their facility. Each of these methods can take many months to complete and are often not completely accurate.  

What types of scientific instruments does Floodlight use?

Floodlight uses a combination of scientific instruments and academic models. The main instruments used are satellite and ground sensor networks. 

What use cases have you seen with your clients?

We recently acquired a large private equity client who is using our data to review scope 1 and 2 emissions from a target company when advising on an acquisition. We were successfully able to reduce their timeframe for collecting this data from 5 months to just four days. We are able to integrate our data into most uses, just ask.

What resolution are you able to get down to with your satellite data?

Depending on the use case, down to 1-meter. Other use cases are between 10-15 meters. 

How can you provide your final data product to your clients?

Data delivery is dependent upon the client use case. We can provide data in its raw form, create a custom report from it, or present it in almost any format that matches your use case.
